Culturing

As some of you on Facebook may have seen, I bought some books the other day to continue the culturing process of my mind/person/whatever you want to call it.  (Total side note: it's kind-of weird finding out how many people Facebook-stalk you.  The other day I had someone ask me about a status update and 2 or 3 other people at the table said, "Yeah, what was that about?"  Slightly creepy...except that I know they're not actually creepers...haha.)  Back to the books.  I shall now reveal their titles (in pictorial form):
Happy Valentine's Day to me!  Or Groupon Day!  Or....meh, Wednesday.

If only I was already done reading this:
Not that it's bad or anything, I'm just dreading the ending because I know it's going to be sad.  I cry enough as it is without reading depressing things...

But, alas, I digress.

I'm super excited to read my new books!  Thanks for the Groupon heads-up, Diana!

Paperbound Torture

So, I just finished reading this book this evening:
Thanks for the picture Barnes and Noble!
Holy cow.  Ok, before I get into this, I probably should let you know: I LOVE the Percy Jackson books.  In fact, I have them all sitting on my shelf.  I think they're awesome.  Naturally, anything by Rick Riordan is going to be on my list to read.  The aforementioned tome is a new series in the same setting as Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

So, what did I do when it came out last Tuesday?

Went right to the store and bought it, naturally.  Who cares that I was in the middle of another book or two?

Oh man.  As I got to the end of this book, I literally felt my blood pressure rising as I got closer to the end and realized: yeah, you know that nice tidy ending you wanted?  It's not coming.  This is definitely the beginning of a series.

Aaargggh!!

I'm beginning to think I get a bit too attached to these fictional characters.  Guess what I'm going to be dreaming about tonight and thinking about for the next week?

Next fall can't come fast enough.  Stinkin' series...

And...done.

End time: 5:50 pm yesterday (give or take a few minutes)

I don't really want to say much about it in case any of you haven't finished it yet (or haven't started but intend to some day in the future).  I'm also not quite sure what I feel about it.  I think, though, there's a good possibility that I didn't like it a whole lot.  But, there are lots of reasons behind that.  Moving on...

I realized a week ago or so that I only have one pair of summer pajamas.  And the pants are kind-of hot (temperature, not fashion-wise--although I still think they're cute).  So, being the extremely crafty person I am (haha), I decided to make my own shorts.  I guess the fact that every pair of pajama shorts I've seen in stores lately hits mid-to-upper thigh helped just a bit.  And here they are!

Yeah, definitely didn't make the shirt.  Thank goodness Target has cheap sleep shirts.

Now, making these should have been easy.  Ha, you forget who's doing this project.  I cut out the pattern wrong, put the first buttonhole in the wrong place, and completely missed the second buttonhole until both legs were already sewn together.  Oh, and then there's that lovely Viking--I shall call him Sven.  That sewing machine and I just don't see eye-to-eye.  Ever.  (He likes my mom, not me.)  I keep telling myself, "Hey, I should go sew something to get better at it.  It'll be fun!"  But, after the first five minutes, I'm usually yelling at something: the pattern, the fabric, Sven, you name it.  I'm not a very patient sewer.  Maybe in time...

Anyways, um...yeah, that's about it.

So it begins...or ends. Whatever.

It's finally here!  (I would have put a picture up...but it takes too long.)  Just for the record, I am hoping to get something else done today rather than just reading this.  Let's be serious, though, I've been waiting for over a year for this stinkin' book.  So, let's do a fun little experiment called: How long will it take for Jenny to finish?

Start time: 3:30 p.m. (approximately)

Updates to follow...

Book Prediction FAIL!

So, my mom and I went down to Thatcher last week to see my cousins graduate. (Good job Bryan and Nykell!) We decided to check out a book on CD from the library to listen to on the way. It was actually surprisingly good. (We kind of just grabbed one off the shelf at random--had never heard of it or the author before. That always makes me nervous.)

Want to know the best part?

As the book progressed, it got to the point where the predictable ending would come...and we still had 2 or 3 disks left. It was very exciting. "How is this going to end?" we asked. "Where is this going?" This doesn't happen very often in the realm of fantasy fiction (or maybe I'm reading the wrong books...), so we were getting pretty pumped up. Finally, we were on the last disk. (Luckily we had a lot of errands to run and were in the car for a while.) We're listening...listening...and then...

"Oh. Really?"

Apparently, we read way more into the book than was actually there. I guess we watch a bit too much NCIS or something, because we were suspecting everyone of having ulterior motives. We thought, "Well, this can't possibly happen because these people always do this and these people always do that." [I'm holding off on details in case any of you actually want to read this book] And then, lo and behold, we were totally wrong. Haha! We laughed so hard.

I guess making things more complicated than they need to be is just a special talent we girls possess. :)
